Ealing chemical leak sees shopping centre evacuated and roads closed

A chemical leak at a health and fitness club in Ealing Broadway led to dozens of people being evacuated and three people being assessed by ambulance staff on Wednesday afternoon (April 13). The incident occurred at Nuffield Heath and Fitness inside The Broadway Centre and 60 people were evacuated from the building.

The Brigade was called at 11:40am with fire engines from Ealing, Acton, Wembley and Bexley fire stations. A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: “Firefighters have been called to reports of a smell of chemicals at a health and fitness club on The Broadway in Ealing.

“Crews are carrying out a sweep of the building to determine if there are any elevated chemical readings. Around 60 people have been evacuated as a precaution and three people have been assessed on scene by London Ambulance Service crews. The Brigade was called at 1140 and is still on the scene. Two fire engines from Ealing and Acton fire stations and two fire rescue units from Wembley and Bexley fire stations are at the scene.”
