Simon Cowell reveals depression battle and fear that he would never walk again after E-bike accident

Music mogul Simon Cowell has revealed that he feared he would never walk again after an e-bike accident. The X Factor judge was thrown off the bike when he lost control of it at his home in Los Angeles. The 62-year-old underwent six hours of surgery to have a metal rod placed in his back. But following the terrifying accident, the entrepreneur shared that he fell into depression during his recovery.

Speaking to The Sun, Simon said: “I considered therapy for the first time when I broke my back because I was very, very, very, low. I felt very depressed because I didn’t know how to explain it to Eric.” The father-of-one went on to reveal his fears about never walking again and playing sports with his son.

He said: “I couldn’t do all the things I wanted to with him. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to walk again, to ever play football with him. That was a low point. I was on a lot of painkillers but I got off them really quickly. I didn’t want to go down that road.”

The Britain’s Got Talent judge shared that he had considered therapy at one point but instead decided to rely on his “great doctors”.

Simon said: “But in the end, I decided against therapy as I had great doctors, Lauren was amazing, and Eric was incredible. I’m still wearing a back brace which I have to wear when I go out on my bike, and there are pretty big screws in my back, and that’s for life.

“But I’m here, I’m alive. And I’m grateful.” Simon had another bike accident near his West London home this year which left him with a broken arm but says he has “learnt his lesson”.

The record executive will be back on our screens in April as he returns for the next season of Britain’s Got Talent on ITV.
