A diversion route is in place on the A12 this afternoon (Saturday, April 9) after an earlier crash. The A12 is shut southbound between J22 and J21 near Witham.
Essex Police is leading the response to the ongoing incident and have closed the carriageway to allow them to work at the scene. National Highways have officers in attendance as well to assist with traffic management.
Traffic is now being diverted past the incident via the B1137. Delays are likely on approach to the closure and diversion routes.

There are delays of at least 40 minutes and around four miles of queues, although some drivers have said they’ve been stuck in stationary traffic for over an hour. Drivers are urged to avoid the area if they can.
An Essex Police spokesperson said earlier: “We are currently on the scene of a collision on the A12. The London-bound carriageway, between Witham and Hatfield Peverel, will remain closed whilst emergency services assess the situation.
“Drivers are encouraged to take local routes where possible. We will update you as soon as we are able.”
