Millwall boss Gary Rowett on ‘lovely tribute’ to Paul Jiggins – South London News

Millwall manager Gary Rowett was sorry that he could not win tonight’s home game against Swansea City as part of the respects paid by the club to journalist Paul Jiggins.

The highly-respected reporter, a big Lions fans, passed away last month at the age of 50.

A number of football clubs, along with players and managers, have expressed their condolences.

The Lions have renamed the media lounge in his honour and there was an official unveiling this evening.

Millwall’s players wore black armbands and both sides joined in a minute’s applause before kick off.

Rowett said: “It was a lovely tribute before the game for Paul. He was a Millwall fan, it shows how much everyone valued him and respected him as a journalist.

“It was quite heart-breaking really, to see his daughter and his wife on the sideline but hopefully they’ll take something out of the fact he got such a good reception. I’m just sorry we couldn’t get a result for him.”
