Lions chief had seriously toyed with making changes against Swansea City – South London News

Millwall manager Gary Rowett revealed he toyed with making changes to his side before tonight’s 1-0 defeat to Swansea.

The Lions boss named the same starting line up as he did for Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Luton Town.

But Rowett brought on Maikel Kieftenbeld and Oliver Burke for George Saville and Tom Bradshaw on the hour mark.

Asked if Saville had a knock, Rowett replied: “He’s fine. I nearly started in a slightly different way. I nearly made a couple of changes, just for energy. I felt we’d had a couple of weeks without playing – Sav and Dan [Ballard] had international matches and maybe that caught up.

“I decided to keep the same team. In retrospect, maybe I should’ve made a couple of changes but I certainly think Burkey and Kief’s energy gave us a bit more forward momentum and helped us to press better.

“The changes worked but they could’ve worked better if we’d gone and got a goal.

“I can’t be frustrated with the players. I’m frustrated at the result. But we’ve given everything we’ve got to be where we are. We’ll continue to do that. We’ve got six games left and we need to win as many games as possible and see what happens.”
