Southall fire live: Updates as smoke can be seen from as far as Heathrow as 60 firefighters tackle huge West London blaze

Firefighters are tackling an enormous fire in West London which has sent a giant plume of black smoke into the air. Smoke from the fire in Southall can be seen for miles around, with pictures being shared on social media showing it is visible from Heathrow, Hounslow and Kew.

London Fire Brigade have shared footage from the scene in Tachbrook Road which shows firefighters having to fight the inferno from the back gardens of neighbouring homes. It is reported that the fire has broken out at a garage.

Initially eight fire engines were sent to the scene this afternoon (Tuesday, April 5) but that has now been increased to 10. A total of 70 firefighters are now battling to control the blaze. The Brigade’s 999 control room took over 40 calls reporting the fire, with the first one coming in at 11.45am.

Station Commander Graeme Hunter, who is at the scene, said: “The fire is producing heavy smoke, which is visible for miles. We are urging residents in the area to close their windows and doors.” Fire crews from Southall, Hayes, Feltham and Heathrow are among those at the scene. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
