A blackout across East London has caused the Docklands Light Railway to grind to a halt as 38,000 Londoners have been left without power since around 12:30pm today (March 29). The power cut was caused by a fire at an electrical substation in Poplar, East London, according to the London Fire Brigade.
Around 25 firefighters are still battling the blaze at the substation on Castor Lane with part of the ground floor still alight. LFB station commander Colin Digby said: “The fire is causing power outages which could affect around 38,000 customers. The whole of the Docklands Light Railway line is suspended. Blackwall Tunnel and Rotherhithe Tunnel are also closed whilst crews work to make the scene safe.”
The power cut caused the entire DLR to be suspended, however the line is now back up and running with minor delays. The power loss has also affected London’s road networks with reports of “traffic lights out” across Tower Hamlets, and the closure of the Rotherhithe and Blackwall Tunnels.

Hello, I am a news reporter for MyLondon. I cover stories across the capital every day.
I qualified as a journalist last year and studied English and History at university, with a special interest in medieval London.
I love London because you’ve never seen it all. Also – all the food.
Some recent stories I am most proud of are this report on the killing of a restaurant owner in Elephant and Castle, this weird situation a Kings College student found herself in, and my review of eating a pigs ear salad in Bloomsbury.
