A1(M) live updates as multi-vehicle collision and fire closes motorway between Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage

The A1 (M) Southbound is closed and there are long delays due to a multi-vehicle incident. The incident took place between Junction 7 A602 Broadhall Way in Stevenage and Junction 6 A1000 in Welwyn Garden City.

Highways England has said following the multiple car collision there was a fire and an oil spillage which has caused damage to the road surface. INRIX has reported long delays and congestion to Junction 8.

Inrix says: “A1(M) Southbound closed long delays, queueing traffic due to multi-vehicle accident between J7 A602 Broadhall Way (Stevenage South) and J6 A1000 Welwyn By Pass Road ( Welwyn / Welwyn Garden City). Congestion to J8 (Stevenage / Hitchin) and routes through Stevenage, Knebworth, Codicote and Welwyn.”
