A12 closed after car overturns on Colchester Road southbound – live updates

The A12 Colchester Road southbound is blocked due to an overturned vehicle from Petersfield Avenue to Gubbins Lane. There is a diversion in place for the 498 bus route.

The incident occurred at around 2.30am today. National Highways: East tweeted at 3.01am: “Transport for London advise the A12 is closed towards London from Junction 28 of the M25 in Essex. This is due to a serious collision being managed by Essex Roads Policing near Harold Hill, Havering.”

They added: “Road expected to be closed for some time for investigation work.” National roads information service Inrix added at 3.18am: “A12 Colchester Road southbound blocked due to overturned vehicle from Petersfield Avenue to Gubbins Lane.”

It is not yet known whether anyone was injured in the incident. It is also not known when the road will be reopened.

The authorities will be hoping the incident is cleared as soon as possible with commuter traffic set to build on the A12. It is a main artery to the capital.
