Man stabbed to death outside North London Underground station named and pictured for first time as 3 teenagers arrested

A man who was stabbed to death in North West London on Friday, February 18, has been named and pictured for the first time. Although officers await formal identification, they believe the deceased to be Muhamoud Mohamed Mahdi, 28, who lived in the Finchley Road area of NW11.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to Watling Avenue, Burnt Oak, Edgware by the Tube station at around 5pm on Friday, February 18, to reports of the stabbing. The Met, along with the London Ambulance Service , attended the scene where they found Muhamoud with stab wounds. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although officers await formal identification, they believe the deceased to be Muhamoud Mohamed Mahdi, 28, who lived in the Finchley Road area of NW11. A murder investigation is continuing at pace following the fatal stabbing, and three males, aged 16, 18 and 19, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, leading the investigation , said: “Muhamoud lived with his mother in Barnet . My officers met with her today and she will be supported by specialist Met officers throughout the unimaginably difficult days and months ahead.”

He added: “I have assured her of my total commitment to ensuring that whoever was responsible for this senseless killing will be brought to justice.” A post-mortem examination took place at Northwick Park Hospital on Saturday, 19 February where the cause of death was found to be stab wounds to the chest.

DCI John added: “I continue to appeal for anyone with information and any witnesses to come forward and speak with police. If they would prefer to remain anonymous, they can also contact the independent charity, Crimestoppers .
