Women’s B Team lose high-scoring encounter – News

Brentford Women’s B Team were knocked out of the County Cup last weekend by South London Laces. A goal-filled game played in the opposition’s favour on Sunday, as The Bees suffered a heavy defeat.

Both teams made a fast start to the game, and Brentford came close to opening the score after a Kasey Clifford free-kick rattled the crossbar, setting the tone for what would be a tough contest between them. In the first half, South London Laces gained the lead thanks to a composed finish by their winger, who looped the ball around the goalkeeper to put them ahead.

Calli Weaver was taken out by the goalkeeper and Brentford were awarded a penalty, which Chloe Logie converted to bring the score to level. Logie delivered the penalty kick in a cool and collected manner, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. But The Bees weren’t level for long as South London Laces struck on the counter-attack and scored with a volley from a cross out wide. The Bees put up a good fight but were trailing South London Laces 2-1 at the break.

SLL made a quick start to the second half, scoring a third goal in a few minutes to make it 3-1 after rounding Carol Checkley. The Bees showed some grit and rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in a flurry of action, as a Clifford free kick from 30 yards made it 3-2 and Cheyenne Faulkner tapped in from close range to level the scores.

Shortly after, SLL was awarded a penalty kick, which they converted to make the score 4-3. They quickly regained their two-goal advantage by tapping in at the back post, increasing their lead to 5-3. SLL took an 8-3 lead into the last few minutes of the game after a poor ten minutes from The Bees.

In the last minutes of the game, Clifford scored another free-kick from the edge of the box to make it 8-4, but it was too little, too late.
