Police were called to a home at 455 Billybrook Crescent, a quiet residential street in a neighbourhood northwest of the Adelaide Street and Fanshawe Park Road intersection, at about 6:20 p.m. Friday.

Officers found the woman’s body in the residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One man was taken into custody.

A 52-year-old man has since been charged with second degree murder, London police announced on Twitter Saturday. The unidentified accused appeared in court Saturday and will remain in custody, police said.

The woman was known to the accused, police said.

Neighbours said a family with two children had lived in the home for more than a decade. The mother had a warm personality and could be seen walking her young daughter to school or taking her to the park nearby.

“She was always gardening with the biggest smile on her face,” said one neighbour, who declined to be identified.

London police remained at the home on Billybrook Crescent Saturday morning. The two-storey home was cordoned off with yellow police tape.

Investigators have not released the identity of the woman or male. The police investigation is ongoing.

Friday’s homicide is the second in London in 2022. A 38-year-old man was charged with second degree murder in the stabbing death of Stephen Hutchinson on Jan. 31.

There were 13 homicides in London last year, up from four in 2020.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call London Police at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
