Girl, 1, seriously injured after plunging from second-floor window at London home

A one-year-old toddler has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after falling from the second-floor window of a home in Lewisham, South London

A toddler has been left seriously injured after falling from the second-floor window of a home in south London.

The one-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital for urgent treatment following the horror fall in Lewisham yesterday.

Emergency services raced to the scene shortly after midday where they found the youngster hurt.

Police and paramedics converged on the incident at Mercy Terrace, on Algernon Road and airlifted the infant to a major trauma centre for surgery.

Police told MyLondon they would be monitoring the scene and that enquiries were still ongoing.

The young girl fell from a height at the back of the home according to police in the area.

Emergency services rushed to the scence but it was decided the girl’s condition was so severe she needed an air ambulance

Her aunt who was at the scene told reporters the girl would be receiving surgery for her injuries.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called by LAS at 12:09hrs on Monday, 28 February to a residential address in Algernon Road SE13 following reports of a child fallen from height.

“Officers responded. The child was taken to hospital by air ambulance; we await a condition update. Officers remain at the scene and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”

While a London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:”We were called at 12:07pm today (28 February) to reports of an incident at a residential address on Mercy Terrace, Lewisham.

“We sent an ambulance crew, a medic in car and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance. The first of our medics arrived in under two minutes.

“We treated an infant at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre.”
