The body of a man was discovered ‘in a refuse bin’ outside a block of flats in East London yesterday morning (Sunday, February 6).

Residents reported that a man was unresponsive in the bin area outside Delafield House on Umberston Street, Whitechapel, shortly after 10am.

Metropolitan Police officers and response crews from the London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene at 10.17am where they found a 55-year-old man.

A video, which we have decided not to share due to its graphic nature, showed a body being pulled from amongst bin bags in front of the block of flats. Concerned members of the public can be seen looking on as officers cut away the man’s clothes and attempted to revive him.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed of his death.

Contrary to reports online, the death is not being treated as suspicious. The Met Police said they will assist with preparing a report for the Coroner.
