Latest Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Shell petrol prices: The cheapest petrol prices and diesel prices in Hertfordshire

If you’ve had to fill your car up over the last couple of weeks you’ll have noticed pump prices have rocketed.

Fuel prices have increased largely because the wholesale price for crude oil, which is used in manufacturing petrol and diesel, has risen following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The cost of fuel has reached record highs as a result – and drivers here are feeling the pinch.

A year ago, the average petrol price stood at 122.50p a litre, while diesel was at 125.99p, according to the RAC.

Fuel prices vary across the UK, but on February 24, RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams predicted a grim milestone for pump prices.

“Both petrol and diesel reached new record levels yesterday [February 24]. Unleaded is nearly 149.5p a litre and diesel almost 153p,” he said.

“Russia’s actions will now push petrol pump prices up to £1.50 very soon. The question then becomes where will this stop and how much can drivers take, just as many are using their cars more and returning to workplaces.”
