Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN advised Russia’s London embassy staff to call the NHS mental health number, after they Tweeted the goal of their invasion was to stop war in Ukraine.

But Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, was having none of it.

He held up the strange tweet in the UN assembly, which said the purpose of Russia’s ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine was to ‘stop any war’ from breaking out.

‘Let me remind the Russian diplomats that in London, in case of need for mental help, you can dial NHS line 111,’ he said in front of the UN assembly, holding up a print out of the tweet. ‘Thank you.’

The UK’s Russian embassy tweeted out the remarks from Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday, prompting a strong reaction from the online community.

‘That is a flat out lie. Russia’s special military operation is instigating a war in Ukraine,’ said spokesperson for the United States Department of State Ned Price.

‘Ukraine does not want a war. #StopTheLies’

Others reacted to the tweet, with sports broadcaster Gary Lineker telling the Russian ambassador to ‘F*** off’.

The moment is not the first time the Ukrainian ambassador has made headlines.

In a heated exchange with Russian representatives on the day Russia invaded Ukraine, he delivered a blunt message to his counterpart.

‘There is no purgatory for war criminals,’ Kyslytsya told Russian UN ambassador Vasily Nebenzya. ‘They go straight to hell, ambassador.’

Nebenzya claimed Ukrainians are shelling themselves during a Security Council meeting in New York, stunning diplomats on Monday.
