Tottenham ‘have gone back on their word’ over Harry Kane

Harry Kane was told by Tottenham and Daniel Levy that he could leave the club last summer, claims former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer.

The 28-year-old was the subject of heavy interest from Manchester City but was forced to remain in north London in the end.

What is the latest news involving Kane?

According to ESPN, Tottenham are hoping to open talks over a new contract with Kane at the end of the season, while the Evening Standard claims that he is contemplating on whether to push for a move.

This comes after City boss Pep Guardiola recently suggested that the Premier League champions had made four unsuccessful bids for the England striker in the previous summer transfer window.

“We tried but Tottenham were clear that it was not going to happen,” the Spaniard was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. “When that happens two, three, four times, it’s over.

“I never was disappointed in what the club cannot do in the transfer market. I’ve never created a fire here.”

City’s failure to sign Kane came back to haunt them at the Etihad last month, with the Tottenham star scoring twice in his side’s 3-2 win. The Citizens, however, remain top of the table, so missing out on their primary No.9 target has not hurt them too much if at all.

What has Palmer said about Kane and Tottenham?

Palmer has told GIVEMESPORT that Tottenham had informed Kane that he would be allowed to leave, only for the north London outfit to have a change of heart.

The ex-Leeds United and Southampton player said: “I have it on good authority that Harry Kane was told that he would be allowed to leave the club last summer, so the club have gone back on their word, in particular Levy’s gone back on his word.

“I wouldn’t be signing a new contract for that club.”

Will Kane still be at Tottenham next season?

It will be interesting to see; a lot is up in the air. Will City still be interested in him? It would not be a shock to see them turn their attention to Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who has a €75m release clause that is about to come into play, instead.

A player of Kane’s ability, someone who has scored well over 200 goals for his club, should be able to attract more than one suitor, though.

Did Tottenham Hotspur sign Moussa Sissoko on transfer deadline day in 2016?

Yes

No

The Telegraph has claimed that if Mauricio Pochettino is named as the next Manchester United manager, then he could swoop for his former player, so perhaps the Red Devils end up making a serious move for him in the summer.

Ultimately, Kane’s future at Tottenham is still in doubt and will remain that way if he does not put pen to paper on a new deal.
