Streatham Sainsbury’s live: Updates as man shot in ‘drive-by shooting’ outside South London supermarket

A man in his 20s was injured in a ‘drive-by shooting’ outside a South London supermarket last night. Armed police rushed to the scene of the shooting at around 8pm yesterday (March 2).

Officers were called to the scene following reports that a gun had been discharged outside the Sainsbury’s supermarket in Streatham High Road, SW16.

Police searched the area, and found a man in his 20s near to Tooting Bec Lid o with head injuries. The injuries are not thought to be life threatening. A witness told the Sun that staff said it was a ‘drive-by shooting’.

A spokesman for the Met said: “Police were called at 8.16pm on Wednesday, March 2, to Streatham High Road SW16 after reports of a firearms discharge.

“Specialist firearms officers were among those responding.

“An area search was conducted and a man aged in his 20s was located in the vicinity of Tooting Bec Lido with head injuries.

“He was taken to hospital. At this early stage his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

“There have been no arrests and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

“A number of scenes are in place.”
