Live updates as police ramp up stop and search powers in West London over gang crime fears

The Met Police in West London have been granted extra stop and search powers due to suspected gang activity in a specific area. The Section 60 order means that officers can search anybody within a specified area and time without the usual requirement for reasonable grounds.

The Section 60 was authorised by by Inspector Penman and will be in place from 6pm on Thursday (March 3) until 6am on Friday (March 4). Areas within the section 60 zone include Maida Vale, Maida Hill and West Kilburn.

Details regarding the order were posted by both Kensington and Chelsea Police and Westminster Police.

In a Tweet police posted: “A Section 60 has been authorised from 18:00 hours until 06:00hrs on Friday 4th March 2022 by Inspector Penman. The areas affected are on the below map. This is due suspected gang activity. Watch this for info on Section 60.”
