Croydon attack: Man, 38, fighting for life after violent attack by gang of 7 men outside KFC near West Croydon Railway Station

A 38-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after being violently attacked by a gang of seven men near West Croydon Railway Station this morning (Sunday, February 27). The Met Police is urgently seeking witnesses to the attack, which happened on London Road just after midnight.

Police believe the man was attacked by “a group of around seven people” at around 12.10am, who made off towards the Centrale Shopping Centre after the assault. Patrolling officers discovered the victim, who had been left with severe head injuries, close to West Croydon Railway Station.

Police gave the man first aid until paramedics from London Ambulance Service could arrive, who rushed him to hospital. He is still in hospital in what police have described as a “life-threatening condition.” His next of kin have been informed.

A crime scene is in place between the Old Fox pub and Sainsbury’s Local, with what appears to be dried blood on the pavement nearby. Police are currently on the scene, and have been seen making enquiries inside the nearby KFC.

Officers say they are are carrying out urgent enquiries to trace the men responsible for the attack. They have already spoken to several witnesses and are reviewing CCTV from the area.
