Jose Mourinho claim dropped as worrying Tottenham Hotspur comparison made amid Roma struggles

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has been told he is doing worse than his spell in north London as he continues to struggle with AS Roma.

The Portuguese boss was appointed at the Stadio Olimpico in the summer to plenty of acclaim and was expected to get the Italian outfit challenging for the Champions League positions once more.

However, that has not come to fruition in the Italian capital. Roma sit a disappointing eighth in the current Serie A standings and six points behind fourth-placed Juventus.

The side have won just three out of their last ten matches in all competitions, whilst a humiliating 6-1 defeat at the hands of European minnows Bodo/Glimt in the Europa Conference League was arguably their lowest point of the season.

Former Roma striker Antonio Cassano has as a result suggested that Mourinho’s spell in charge is more underwhelming than his inconsistent stint in charge of Spurs.

Talking to TuttoMercatoWeb, the ex-Italian international said: “Roma are a disaster.

“He has been doing terribly since that 6-1 defeat. Mourinho is doing worse than Tottenham, even from the media view, where he was always number one. I am not liking anything.”

Mourinho was of course handed the reins in north London following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019.

He was only in charge for a season-and-a-half, overseeing 86 games in that time. He won 45 of those but was sacked following a poor run of just one win in five games and an embarrassing European exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb.

The two-time Champions League winner was eventually replaced by Ryan Mason on a temporary basis before Nuno Espirito Santo was offered the job full-time.

He did not last too long in north London either before being succeeded by Antonio Conte.

Mourinho’s contract with Roma is set to run until 2024 but should he be removed before then, it would mean he would have been sacked from each of his last four jobs within football.
