BBC The Graham Norton Show: Channing Tatum’s former home in quiet London commuter town that’s a million miles from Hollywood

American actor and producer Channing Tatum is someone we all recognise from the big screen. Whether it be his 2005 debut movie Coach Carter or his first major acting breakthrough playing Tyler Gage in Step Up, Channing has brought audiences far and wide for at least 17 years of entertainment.

Channing also took a leading role in the 2012 film Magic Mike, along with its 2015 sequel Magic Mike XXL, while also starring as Jenko in 21 Jump Street and its sequel 22 Jump Street. He’s also appeared in other films such as She’s the Man, The Dilemma, White House Down, Foxcatcher, The Hateful Eight, Hail, Caesar! and Logan Lucky, not to mention his being cast in two G.I. Joe movies.

In his personal life, he was formerly married to co-star actress Jenna Dewan, who he met on the set of Step Up in 2006. The couple married in 2009, but separated in 2018 after having one daughter together. Before their divorce was finalised in November 2019, Channing started dating famous English singer Jessie J.

The couple met in September 2018, and within the year Channing found himself leaving Hollywood and moving to the UK to be with his new girlfriend. But their choice of location to set up their new life together was not a place one would typically associate with Hollywood stars.

Channing and Jessie dated for two years

Channing and Jessie chose to settle in a little town in Suffolk called Bury St Edmunds. The exact home they rented is not public knowledge, but reports around August 2019 suggested they lived close to supermodel Claudia Schiffer and her movie director husband Matthew Vaughn.

A source close to Jessie at the time told The Sun that the pair wanted to “enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside”. The source added: “The property they’ve been using suits them down to the ground as it’s not too far from London, but it’s really relaxing and away from all the noise so they can spend quality time together.”

Reports also stated that their home in Bury St Edmunds had its own pool and tennis court. A week before the couple moved in, Channing had announced to millions of his followers on Instagram that he was going to take a break from social media for a while, so that might be a suggestion about what he was doing in his free time away from his phone screen.

However, just a year after moving in together, Channing and Jessie announced that they had broken up. Channing was already spending a lot of his time in the US where his daughter was living with his ex-wife, so one can assume his stay in Bury St Edmunds was quite short.

After their break up, Jessie left their countryside home, which led some to look out for properties in the area that had recently been put up for rent so they could figure out which one was their home.

One property that caught a lot of peoples’ eye was The Clock Tower in Rougham Park, which at the time was being advertised for £2,200 a month. Another was a mansion called The Gateway, located on Sicklesmere Road in Bury St Edmunds, which was going for £2,600 a month.

Channing Tatum nonetheless still visits the UK, and he will be in town on Friday to appear on The Graham Norton Show at 10.35pm on BBC One.
