Red weather warnings affect Newcastle United supporters’ West Ham travel plans amid Storm Eunice disruptions

Storm Eunice is wreaking havoc across the United Kingdom and football supporters up and down the country will be affected over the weekend.

None more so than Newcastle United fans who face the long trip to London for the Magpies’ early game against West Ham on Saturday.

Record-breaking winds have been recorded in different parts of the country and red weather warnings were implemented to limit safety risks.

On Friday, during the worst stage of the storm, London was one of the areas of the UK where such advice was put in place with Newcastle fans advised against travelling down south the day before the match.

Eddie Howe and his squad were planning to make the trip south via the club’s chartered plane but it was soon grounded and they were forced to make alternative plans with a coach chosen as the mode of transport instead.

Many fans were also preparing to go down to the capital on Friday due to the inconvenience of having to make the trip of over 280 miles on the morning of a 12:30pm kick-off.

However, due to the severity of the weather conditions, plenty will have instead chosen the less attractive early wake up option in the hope that there are no significant delays on Saturday morning.

Supporters travelling by train may also be affected by Storm Eunice as several London stations, including Euston, were closed on Friday.

The majority of fans planning on visiting the London Stadium would be reliant on both the train service and the London Underground and with both being affected, arriving in time for kick-off on Saturday could turn out to be a nightmare for both sets of fans.

The good news is that the worst of the storm is expected to have passed by Saturday morning, but the effects of Friday’s conditions will prove to be the main issue.

As updates continue to be posted by the Met Office regarding Storm Eunice, those Newcastle fans who are hoping to travel to London should continue to follow updates regarding travel as delays and cancellations are still likely.
