A flight from Edinburgh to London was forced to return north after a single failed landing attempt in the English capital due to high winds caused by Storm Eunice.
Pilots on the British Airways service pulled a mid-air U-turn shortly after 11:30am on Friday morning when it became clear conditions were unsafe to bring the aircraft onto the tarmac at Heathrow.
Gusts exceeding 100mph have been recorded in some parts of the UK, while rail services between the two capital cities are subject to long delays and cancellations.

The flight had already departed Edinburgh more than 20 minutes later than initially scheduled due to the inclement weather but pulled any attempt at landing in London shortly after 10:50.
Passengers are now expected to arrive back in the city where they left hours earlier at around noon.

The airline previously said it was suffering from “significant disruption”, with dozens of flights cancelled in a statement to the PA news agency.
They added: “Due to the extreme weather conditions across the UK and resulting restrictions on the number of aircraft that can take-off and land each hour, we, like other airlines, are experiencing significant disruption.
“We’re operating as many flights as we can and putting on larger aircraft where possible.
