Woman dead after horrific flat fire on Kensington High Street

A woman died after a fire broke out in a seven-story building on Kensington High Street last week (February 6). Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters rushed to the blaze in Kensington, West London, at 1.43pm.

They found most of the flat on the sixth floor alight and damaged by the fire. A woman was found in the hallway and rushed to hospital by members of the London Ambulance Service who had to use breathing apparatus to enter. She died some time later.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters rushed to the scene

The fire was under control by 3pm, after fire crews from Hammersmith, Fulham, Chelsea and Chiswick fire stations attended the scene. The Metropolitan Police Service has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire along with the London Fire Brigade.

A fire brigade spokesperson said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Kensington High Street. Most of a flat on the sixth floor of the seven-storey building was damaged by the fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus found a woman in the hallway. She was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews, where she sadly later died.

“The brigade was called at 1.43pm and the fire was under control by 3.03pm. Fire crews from Hammersmith, Fulham, Chelsea and Chiswick fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
