Royal Family: The Queen reveals the one thing she can’t do while wearing her £3 billion crown

Her Royal Highness the Queen has now spent 70 years on the throne and recently celebrated her Platinum Jubilee. During her long reign, she’s travelled all around the world representing her country – and has enjoyed countless opportunities to show off her impeccable taste while she carries out Royal duties – sometimes complete with a crown on her head.

Arguably the most impressive piece in her jewellery collection is the Imperial State Crown, which she used to wear at least once a year at the State Opening of Parliament. It is adorned with 2,901 precious stones, including rubies, diamonds and sapphires.

Despite being the only person in the country to wear it, she revealed how wearing it is not a very pleasant experience. Her Majesty made the comments in a 2018 BBC documentary in which she discussed the 65th anniversary of her ascending to the throne.

The throne is estimated to be worth at least £3 billion, but could be as high as £5 billion, the Mirror reports. However, they really are priceless. Alastair Bruce, an expert on the Crown Jewels who had a conversation with Her Majesty in the documentary, said: “It’s difficult to always remember that diamonds are stones and so they’re very heavy.”

The Queen says she struggles to look down when wearing the Imperial Crown

The Queen replied: “Yes, fortunately, my father and I have about the same sort of shaped head. But once you put it on it stays. I mean it just remains on.” When asked how still she has to keep her head when wearing it, she explained: “You can’t look down to read the speech, you have to take the speech up.

“Because if you did, your neck would break – it would fall off. So there are some disadvantages to crowns, but otherwise they’re quite important things.” It has been a historic week for the Queen, as she celebrated her Platinum Jubilee by spending the day at Sandringham.

On the eve of her Platinum Jubilee, she made headlines after releasing a statement in which she announced Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall,, to be known as Queen Consort when Prince Charles becomes King. It was been assumed that Camilla would take the title Princess Consort instead.

But in a message to the nation, the Queen wrote: “When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me.

“And it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”
