Mum’s heart-breaking plea for justice one year after son fatally stabbed in North London

15

One year on from Sven Badzak’s death, Jasna Badzak, his mother, returned to the place he was stabbed to death. She barely managed to keep herself together as she saw the stretch of pavement where her only son died. Speaking to MyLondon, she said: “Seeing part of the pavement where my child’s life ended. It’s beyond words. Seeing that with my own eyes. That street. I had to be talked into it.

“I can’t describe it to you. I felt so dizzy. Friends of mine were holding me so I didn’t collapse. But imaging my Sven there, it’s such a horrific place.”

Jasna had gone with police to the place on Willesden Lane where Sven was fatally stabbed on Saturday February 6 2021. It was part of a fresh appeal from the police to find two males they want to speak to in connection with the ongoing investigation.

Detectives believe a number of suspects are outstanding and have released pictures of the two males they wish to speak to. The images were taken near the scene, shortly before Sven was attacked.

For Jasna, the pain of losing her son is just as fresh one year on. She continued: “You blame yourself. Why didn’t’ you come there. I was always there to help him. Maybe I could have saved him.

“If I could have got him to an ambulance faster. If I could have stopped the bleeding somehow.”

Before he died, Sven lived with Jasna in their house in Maida Vale. Jasna said she hasn’t been able to go into his bedroom since.

“His bedroom. I haven’t been in. But when I open the door it still smells of him. As he left it its’ the same,” she said. “I want that smell to remain. Because I can’t replace it. It’s the smell of my child. Even the mug he was drinking is there, the day he died. It might sound disgusting but it’s still there. The last drink he had.”

So far three people have been charged and are expected to appear in court on July 18, a week after Sven would have turned 24.

Jasna continued: “I’m still expecting him to walk in. Sometimes he would watch the movies in the evening. I would go to bed and he would watch quietly.

“I would give anything to get that back. Those evenings.”

She said: “I ended up in hospital dreaming of Sven. People thought I had a stroke. It kills you. You live every day with it. You can’t stop thinking. Your baby is alive in your heart, you want to hug him. He was a child.

“He was so so so polite. And genuinely one of the best people I ever knew. He really cared about others.”

Sven went to some of the best private schools in London, including the prestigious Wetherby Prep School in Notting Hill, which was also attended by Princes William and Harry.

He had even met Boris Johnson while the PM was campaigning to become Mayor of London. Jasna received a letter of condolence from the politician in the wake of her son’s death.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “More than a year has passed since this horrific incident that took a young man from his family and our investigation remains ongoing.

“Sven’s family deserve justice and we will not rest until we identify those responsible and bring them all before the courts.

“We would ask anyone – especially those in Kilburn and the wider area near where the incident took place – to take a careful look at these images to check whether you know who these males are and if you saw them in the vicinity of Willesden Lane on 6 February 2021.”

Anybody with information relating to this investigation is being urged to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 5580/06FEB21.
