ITV Starstruck: Jason Manford claps back as viewers complain about the sound, telling viewer ‘your telly is s***’

Viewers of a brand new ITV show are thrilled that a feeling of nostalgia has returned to Saturday night television. The talent contest, which sees members of the public transform into their idols, is being compared to Cilla Black’s Stars In Their Eyes.

Olly Murs hosts the show while a panel featuring Adam Lambert, Sheridan Smith, Beverley Knight and Jason Manford decide their favourite of the night before the voting audience pick just one person to go through to the series final.

The opening show featured Teams Freddie Mercury, Ariana Grande, Marvin Gaye and Lady Gaga. The winning trios from each show will compete against each other for a place in the grand final and the chance to walk away with £50,000.

While viewers got comfy to watch the episode, they took to Twitter to point out that something seemed to be wrong with the sound, complaining that it sounded ‘tinny.’ One fan said the judges sounded like they were ‘in a tunnel.’

As Jason chatted with fans on Twitter about the show, one fan asked him: “Why is the sound so bad @JasonManford? He jokingly with a crying laughing emoji: “Your telly is s*** Paul.”

But another fan agreed, adding: “Sound is iffy, singers are OK and opening number too. Judges speaking have an echo, but Olly’s mic is worst.” Another viewer chimed in: “Great start #Starstruck but honestly @ITV you need to sort the sound, something is not right.”

Another complained: “The sound quality on #Starstruck is horrendous! Judges sound like they are in a tunnel! @ITV.” However, despite the appearent technical issues, the show seems to already be proving popular.

One fan wrote: “Omg I love this show already”, while another enthused: “Gotta say @JasonManford I’m truly loving #Starstruck so far. This is what Saturday night tv should be. Pure fun, laughter, talent and great music!!”

A Radio Times review for last night’s episode reads: “It’s not often that two shows with the same title are scheduled in the same week, but I don’t think anyone will confuse this for another episode of Rose Matafeo’s comedy. From the first minute, it’s obvious what we have here – a souped-up Stars in Their Eyes, complete with sing-offs and a line-up of judges including Sheridan Smith and Beverley Knight enthusing about wannabe Freddie Mercurys “owning” the song.

“Yet despite the high praise and added glitz, these are still the kind of transformations that wouldn’t look out of place at a Tribute Night down the Rose and Crown. It is, though, undeniably good value, with the format allowing for these singer-impersonators to compete as a team against rival acts. So, in the case of the Queen frontman, we get Yellow Leather Jacket Freddie singing alongside Harlequin Leotard Freddie. It is, I guess, a kind of magic.”
