Jurgen Klopp sticks the knife in on Tottenham after £37m Fabio Paratici decision pays off

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hailed Luis Diaz’s Premier League debut as one of the best he has ever seen after Tottenham Hotspur failed to secure his signature in January.

The Colombian was linked with a move to north London throughout the winter window, with both Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici aiming to give the Spurs attack a bit of a refresh.

However, they failed to tempt the former Porto man to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool instead managing to steal a march by sealing his services for a reported £37m fee.

Since moving to Anfield from the Estadio do Dragao, Diaz has played two matches – one in the FA Cup against Cardiff City and the other his Premier League debut against Leicester City.

Whilst the winger did not manage to contribute to either of Diogo Jota’s goals on the night, he still turned in an impressive performance, leaving Reds boss Klopp impressed in the process.

Speaking after seeing his side run out 2-0 victors, the German said: “It was his first game and it was probably one of the best I ever saw from a new player, that’s true, because he looked completely natural.

“But it was only a first game and we have to see how he adapts to working with intensity and all this kind of things in the Premier League.

“There is no rush. Last night was a very good opportunity to start him because of Sadio not being here yet and Mo [Salah] coming back from an incredibly tense tournament and, yes, he showed up.”

Whilst Spurs were frustrated in their efforts to take Diaz to north London, they were able to secure two January signings in the form of Juventus duo Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.

The latter has so far made two substitute appearances against Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup and the recent 3-2 defeat to Southampton. Meanwhile, Bentancur has impressed with his brief cameos against the same opponents.

The pair will certainly hope to have more of an impact this weekend as Antonio Conte’s men tackle Wolverhampton Wanderers at home.
