London crime: Van driver dragged along floor clinging to his vehicle after criminals hijack it in Ealing

Police are appealing for witnesses after a white van driver has had his car “hijacked” in broad daylight in West London. A man was spotted clinging on to a van driving through South Ealing yesterday in footage uploaded to social media.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on South Ealing Road (W5) shortly after 3pm on February 9 to reports of a disturbance after a man was dragged a short distance by his attacker. Footage of the incident was later posted to Twitter by a motorist who was driving behind the van in the direction of Ealing Broadway.

The video, which is filmed from another car driving behind the white van along South Ealing Road, shows a man clinging on for dear life as hijackers allegedly drive off with his vehicle. A man is then seen falling from the van, which has the hazard lights flashing, and seconds later he lies down in the middle of the road.

A member of the public quickly rushes over to come to the aid of the man, who is dressed in dark clothing, while a woman can be heard shouting “oh no” and “oh my god”. The Tweet was captioned: “Van driver clings onto his van after criminals hijack it in Ealing, West London. Hope he’s okay!”

In the clip, the white van can be seen travelling along South Ealing Road, passing over a zebra crossing and towards the Coral betting shop, while another vehicle pulls out behind them – temporarily blocking the view of the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at 3.27pm on Wednesday, February 9 to reports of a disturbance in South Ealing Road, W5. Officers attended and it was reported a man had been dragged a short distance along the road by a man who stole his van.
