South London man taught gun owner how to ‘repair’ firearm and advised on how to use it effectively

A man has been found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to enable another to endanger life. Danny Harle, from Southwark, appeared at the Old Bailey on February 7 and will return to the same court for sentencing on February 18.

The 26-year-old gave advice on how to use an illegal firearm and was convicted of the firearms offence. He previously pleaded guilty to the supply and possession with intent to supply Class B controlled drugs.

After a shooting in Herne Hill in September 2020, Harle was identified as a person of interest after police carried out covert recordings. On October 10 2020, an individual in possession of a firearm visited Harle asking for his help with a gun which had been jamming.

Harle proceeded to offer advice about the ‘correct ammunition’ required. Later that day, a recording heard the pair meet up for a second time and Harle manipulated the gun. He succeeded in unjamming it and advised the person to “grease it [the gun] every time you go out there”.

Cannabis was seized upon Harle’s arrest

Detective constable Mick Grimshaw, from the Specialist Crime Command, said: “Throughout this investigation we found that Harle put others in danger in order to further his illegal enterprise. There can be no doubt that Harle is a man with little regard for the safety of those around him. He was documented quite clearly ‘repairing’ an illegal firearm for another person and advising them how to carry out future shootings. This man’s potential to not only harm others, but to school other criminals in committing other acts of violence is untold.

“I hope that today’s verdict demonstrates the Met’s commitment to pursuing individuals such as Harle and bringing forward robust case files which will result in custodial sentences for people as dangerous as this man.”

Harle was found not guilty on two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life in connection with a Herne Hill incident on September 10 2020.
