Channel 4 A Place in the Sun: Danni Menzies’ life off camera from whirlwind romance with army hero to stunning South London home

Any fan of daytime television will be familiar with the classic Channel 4 programme A Place in the Sun.

Since first hitting our screens in 2004, the popular show has gone from strength to strength and has helped a number of hopeful buyers find their dream homes abroad .

Given the popularity of the property show, it’s unsurprising that its presenters have become household names in their own right. The likes of Jonnie Irwin and Jasmine Harman are perhaps the most recognisable faces, though a number of new presenters have appeared on the show too in more recent years.

Danni presents A Place In The Sun on Channel 4

One A Place in the Sun presenter who has amassed a dedicated fanbase is Danni Menzies. 33-year-old Danni joined the show’s presenting team in 2016 and has delighted viewers ever since with her upbeat attitude and property expertise – but what about Danni’s life off camera?

Danni has been candid when revealing some aspects of her life off camera. In terms of matters of the heart, Danni revealed that she once dated a war-hero in a whirlwind romance after she met him on a blind date in London.

The Channel 4 presenter was once in a relationship with a man who was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross after he was shot in the throat during a horrific Taliban shoot-out. Despite this, the soldier continued fighting in Afghanistan in 2013 and helped to save colleagues in Operation Herrick.

The couple met on a blind date in London and spent the first lockdown together after five or six dates. The presenter told the Sunday Post in June 2020: “Two of our best friends are dating each other so they set us up. He came out of the Army about five years ago and started a company doing outside broadcasting, rigging live events for TV.

“When I first saw him I thought he was attractive. He is a tall, strapping lad, but he was quite nervous and I like people who are confident, so I wasn’t sure. Later on in the date, he took control and took me to a fantastic speakeasy kind of place where you solve puzzles for drinks. It was really good fun and he was the most gentlemanly man I have ever been on a date with.”

“He met my mum and dad and my brother, sister and granny – from a distance, of course. My mum and dad really like him. The relationship seemed to be going from strength to strength in June last year.”

She said: “It [lockdown] propelled things quite quickly. So I have a boyfriend now. It is quite amazing. We only fell out once. I usually get fed up with boys quickly, so for me that’s really good.”

Sharing pictures of a completed room, the TV host said: “My bedroom is the only room in the house that’s finished. I’ve been putting my stuff away so I’m just going to warn you – it’s a blinking bomb site. My sad A Place in the Sun clothes missing the sunshine like me.”

Danni Menzies will appear on A Place in the Sun on Channel 4 today (February 7) at 3pm
