‘Why not?’ – Patrick Vieira confident Crystal Palace can win FA Cup – South London News

Patrick Vieira is adamant that Crystal Palace can win the FA Cup this season and believes that the club should be ambitious and aim for silverware.

The Eagles take on League Two side Hartlepool United at Selhurst Park tomorrow in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Palace knocked out South London rivals Millwall in the previous round of the competition thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s second-half winner.

The Eagles have reached the final of the FA Cup twice in their history, losing both times to Manchester United in 1990 and 2016.

Vieira won the competition five times during his playing career – four times with Arsenal and once with Manchester City.

When asked if Crystal Palace could win the FA Cup, Vieira replied adamantly: “Why not?

“The FA Cup is a really exciting competition – it always creates special moments.

“To go to the end and win it, you will of course need to be consistent in your performances, and you will need a little bit of luck.

“We have to believe in ourselves – the objective that we have is to go as far as we can. With a little bit of luck, why not?

“To give ourselves the best chance, it’s always about performing on the day – always wanting more and not to be satisfied with what you have.

“We need to be ambitious, individually, but collectively too. We need to be ambitious as a football club so players can feel that this football club wants to win silverware.

“We have to create an atmosphere around the players so that they have in their mind that they want to win something and win the FA Cup.

“As a club, if we manage to create this kind of atmosphere, we will be really demanding on the players that we have in our club. I think players like that as well, and the more they will perform.”
