Metropolitan Police officers were called to Hall Place in Westminster at around 5.20pm today to reports of a stabbing. A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital with potentially “life-threatening injuries”. The incident in question happened near Church Street, not inside the college, and the man was returned to the college as place of safety where he was treated prior to being taken to hospital by ambulance.
They said in a statement: “Police on scene in Hall Place #Westminster #W2 after call at 5.20pm to reports of a stabbing.
“A 20-year-old man was treated at scene & taken to hospital, condition treated as potentially life-threatening.
“No arrests at this time.”
They added: “Following this incident a Section 60 Order covering the entirety of the Boroughs of Westminster & Kensington and Chelsea has been authorised.
Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 allows a police officer to stop and search a person without suspicion.
This is different from ordinary ‘stop and search’ because it means the police don’t need to have ‘reasonable grounds’ in order to stop and search you.
London and UK Crime Twitter account wrote: “Ongoing police incident near by next to city of Westminster college near Edgware Road.
“Police have locked three roads.”

Ms Muroki did not hold back her criticisms on how both have handled gang violence in the capital, claiming that nothing had been done with previously drawn up plans on crime and violence prevention.
She said: “There is nowhere near enough scrutiny on the Mayor of London on this, he is the man with a direct mandate for policing in London, yet his record is abysmal.
“It’s coming up to five years since his Knife Crime Strategy was last updated, the Violence Reduction Unit he set up in 2018 has clearly had no impact on knife crime.
“He’s a man without a plan. And as for Dame Cressida Dick, head of the Met Police – she simply needs to get a grip.”
Mr Khan insisted he is trying to combat the violence taking place on the streets of London.
This month, the Mayor of London announced he had added an additional £50m to try and help to tackle crime across London.
The latest financial investment is set to be spread out over the next three years. The money will also help to build grassroots crime prevention projects across the capital.
Mr Khan said: “The funding will empower local authorities to tackle violence in their area, reduce offending in their communities, and support victims locally.
“We know the challenges of the pandemic have exacerbated the causes of crime and violence and that’s why this investment is so important and so timely.
Mr Khan added: “This new funding package of almost £50m will provide dedicated funding for local authorities now and allow them to work together to tackle complex problems across borough boundaries and support local communities to tackle violence and reduce offending where they are.”
