Knights Hill Police department have carried out an intelligence led weapons sweep in West Norwood today, uncovering a wooden bat in their search. However, unfortunately for the team, their post on social media has led to a frenzy of people all making the same joke about their discovery.
The department shared the news on Twitter, writing: “Today in partnership with @lambeth_council public protection team we carried out an intelligence led weapons sweep in SE27. As a result a wooden bat was recovered @LambethMPS @MPSGipsyHill @MPSThurlowPark.”
They attached an image of the wooden bat alongside the Tweet and people couldn’t help but laugh, as one user replied: “Looks like you’ve found a stick lads.”
Another added: “Marvellous job, chaps. We can all sleep safer in our beds knowing that this horrid, er, stick is no longer on the streets. You, and you alone, are holding back the tide of barbarity and also sticks,” while a third said: “Sleep safer tonight. The rozzers took another high powered stick off the streets.”

The resemblance of the wooden instrument led people to joke the police had simply broken up a game of the local rounders team, as one person joked: “Residents will sleep soundly in their beds tonight now that rounders is off the menu.”
And: “Guys, you have to return that. The local rounders team can’t play if you confiscate their bat.”
A third laughed: “Take the rounders ball that came with it.”
But some users praised the team for their efforts, stating that the area is clearly safe considering the lack of actual weapons found in their search.
One person noted: “Actually, if this is the only weapon you can unearth in Tulse Hill and West Norwood, then that’s a positive. At long last we are the safest neighbourhood in London!”
