Channel 4 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown: Lee Mack’s personal life from stunning wife of 16 years and why he gave up alcohol

Comedian and presenter Lee Mack has been making Brits laugh since he shot to fame in 1994.

The 53-year-old funnyman, from Lancashire, is best known for starring in the sitcom Not Going Out, as well as being a team captain on the comedy panel show Would I Lie To You?

He is also a guest team captain on Channel 4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown – a spin-off of the iconic quiz show.

Mack has been married for 16 years to his stunning wife, Tara McKillop – but some people think she is so “beautiful” that it’s impossible they met before he rose to fame.

The comedian says that some believe she was attracted to his celebrity status, rather than his personality.

The sister of actress Roisin Conaty, 41, had revealed her belief that they had got together when Lee’s fame rose, but they actually met when they were in university.

Lee said on a recent podcast: “We talked the other day with Roisin Conaty. Her sister met Tara and said ‘I assume you two have been together after you became a comedian and a bit of money.’

“And I said ‘no, no, we met before I ever was a comedian when we were at university’. And she looked aghast at why this woman would be with me.

“And do you know what she said? ‘Did you save her life or something?’ I thought that’s an incredibly bold statement to make after five minutes of meeting someone.”

Speaking on the I Can’t Believe It’s Not Buddha podcast, he revealed: “Probably the number one reason I gave up drinking was a book recommendation. I read a book that changed my whole attitude to alcohol.

“Now, I wasn’t what you’d call, I wasn’t waking up in a skip. I wasn’t that kind of drinker. I was just reading this book out of interest.

“I’ve had a long relationship with booze because I grew up in a pub, and I have got a history of my family being very heavy drinkers…”
