Breaking: Tottenham confirm midfielder departure after Rodrigo Bentancur transfer

Tottenham have confirmed the exit of Giovani Lo Celso, with the Argentine joining Villarreal until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old midfielder has played just nine times for Spurs in the Premier League so far this season, with just two of them coming from the start, with none coming under Antonio Conte.

Lo Celso was left out of the Tottenham match day squad in their recent defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League, with the Argentina international confirming that he was fully fit on social media despite his absence.

So, it comes as no surprise that Lo Celso has now moved to Villarreal until the end of the season, especially after Spurs confirmed the signing of Rodrigo Bentancur.

Lo Celso is returning to Spain after switching to England in the summer of 2020.

Tottenham released this statement on their website, confirming the loan deal: “Giovani Lo Celso has joined La Liga side Villarreal on loan for the remainder of the season.

“The Argentina midfielder joined us from Real Betis in 2019 and has made 84 appearances in our colours to date, scoring eight goals.”

It was just last month that Conte gave his verdict on Lo Celso and how he could fit into his Tottenham side.

“Giovani was injured, if you remember, during the period with the national team,” the Italian told football.london when asked if Lo Celso could play over Christmas.

“(Cristian) Romero and Giovani Lo Celso came back injured. Romero is still injured and Giovani is trying to have good training sessions, to improve his physical condition and then to be ready to play with us. That is all.”

Dele Alli also looks like he could be on his way out of Tottenham before the 11pm deadline, with the English attacker said to be undergoing a medical at Everton.
