Man arrested after four-hour armed police standoff closing roads in East London

Police have arrested a man following an incident involving armed police for hours in Leyton.

High Road, near Leyton station, was partially cordoned off as armed police and a huge presence from other police, fire fighters and paramedics were alerted to worrying reports at lunch time (Monday, January 24).

The armed officers were in a standoff from about 12.15pm to just after 4pm with a man allegedly wielding a machete and gas cannister from an open window.
