Chelsea want to ‘persuade’ striker into transfer as Thomas Tuchel considers £25m deal

Thomas Tuchel will be looking to make some additions to his squad this month amid a dip in form for his Chelsea side and injury problems in key areas.

A search for a left-back is ongoing but there are other areas of the squad that need refreshing and with doubts surrounding Romelu Lukaku’s long-term future in west London they may be looking at a backup striker.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of the latest rumours from in and around Stamford Bridge.

One of the most highly sought after young stars in the game right now is Lille’s Jonathan David, who is wanted by Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid while Chelsea, Tottenham and Bayern Munich are all reportedly trying to persuade David to leave Lille having made official enquiries for the 22-year-old.

This concrete interest will be exciting news for Chelsea fans with more goals needed from the club’s attacking force. The Canadian international has scored 12 goals in 22 Ligue 1 games this season after winning the title last term.

Amid interest from Bayern, who also have David’s international teammate Alphonso Davies on their books, Chelsea will need to act fast for a player who will surely leave France this summer.

Chelsea’s pursuit of a left-back is well documented following the injury to Ben Chilwell in December leaving Marcos Alonso as the Blues’ only option in that position.

A failed deal to recall Emerson Palmieri from his Lyon loan move has forced Chelsea to look elsewhere for a wing-back with one option being Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa.

Sosa has a price tag of £25million with the German club, which is unlikely to dissuade Chelsea from signing an exciting left-sided player who can contribute going forward as well as defensively.

Having just turned 24, the price tag should not be a problem for the Blues but any permanent signing could lead to them being overstocked in the summer, meaning that any signing should be carefully considered.
