Breaking: Chelsea’s first January signing confirmed as Dylan Williams signs

Chelsea have seemingly completed the signing of Derby youngster Dylan Williams after the left-back announced the deal on his personal social media.

The Blues have solved the left-back issue in their academy squad whilst the same conundrum remains in the first team roster with Emerson Palmieri still no closer to being recalled from his Lyon loan, football.london understands.

Williams, 18, has made eight appearances so far for the Rams this season and was missing from their matchday squad for the Nottingham Forest loss in the Saturday lunch-time kick-off.

That hint alongside Wayne Rooney’s admission had alluded to the fact that a deal was close to completion but his latest social media post has confirmed what we have all expected to happen.

Rooney’s admission in his press conference was as followed: “We have agreed a fee with a Premier League club, still getting finalised as we speak, for Dylan Williams.

“It is one where I felt I couldn’t deny him the opportunity, so that is my decision, not an administrator’s decision.

“It was my decision after speaking to the player, I felt I couldn’t deny a young lad an opportunity of going to play in the Premier League.”

Now that the suspense is over for both set of fans who now can get use to what has happened, the 18-year-old has confirmed the transfer switch from the East Midlands to West London on his Instagram @dylanwilliams_.

His message read: ‘Wow.

‘I am absolutely delighted to have signed for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“Thank you so much for everything the staff and players have done @dcfcofficial.

‘I cannot wait to get started @chelseafc.’
