BREAKING: Fire crews tackle blaze at eight-storey block of flats in Newham

Over half of fourth-floor flat damaged by fire

The fire affected a fourth-floor flat, with over half of the affected property damaged in the incident.

Lonfon Fire Brigade said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Claremont Close in Newham.

“Firefighters tackled a large fire in a four-roomed flat on the fourth floor of an eight-storey block of flats, where over half of the flat was damaged by the fire.

“The Brigade’s Control officers took 23 calls about the fire.

“The Brigade was called at 2313 and it was under control by 0019. Firefighters from East Ham, Plaistow, Barking, Poplar, Stratford and other neighbouring fire stations attended the scene.

“Firefighters will remain at the scene for the next few hours to dampen down the area.

“The cause of the fire will be investigated.”
