Visually impaired teacher accomplishes walk around London for charity – South London News

A visually impaired teacher has finished his walk around London for a blind charity – and has had a joke donation from someone claiming to be Novak Djokovic.

Richard Simpson, of Woolwich Road, Greenwich, has so far brought in more than £3,100 for the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

The latest donor, claiming to be the record-breaking Serbian tennis star, gave £10 and added: “I’ll be coming over to see your new kitchen once I leave Sydney.

Keepy-uppy the good work.”

Djokovic was isolating in an Australian quarantine hotel at the time after being told he would not be exempt from having to have the vaccine if he wants to compete in the Australian Open.

Visually impaired English teacher Richard, pictured, has been taking a train from his home and walking 10 miles a day around the London Loop – and it’s actually helping him to isolate as Omicron numbers mushroom.

Richard’s GoFundMe page says: “Your fundraising could help us ensure no call to the RNIB helpline goes unanswered, and that no one feels alone during this difficult time.”

Perhaps it was the last aspect which struck a “cord” with the champion Serb.
