North London man spends two years and £34,000 refurbishing campervan – then it’s stolen

A North London man has been left devastated after a campervan he spent almost two years and spent thousands of pounds on refurbishing, with the aim of selling it on, was stolen from outside his house over the weekend.

Max Bolland, 39, has a catering business but when work dried up during the pandemic he took out a Bounce Back loan and bought the campervan as a business project.

The white Peugeot Boxer LWB camper came totally bare and Max worked on it throughout the many lockdowns doing it up when he was unable to work at his day job.

Work was almost finished on the campervan

“I hadn’t spared any cost”, he told MyLondon.

“A lot of love and planning went into that van.”

He and a carpenter, Josh, had fitted it out with a gas stove, a state of the art toilet, a shower, good battery storage, a skylight, a solar panel, and more with the work coming to approximately £34,000.

It was all almost done and Max was hoping to sell the van for £44,000 when it was stolen over the weekend from outside his house in Wood Green.

Max reported the theft to the police but unfortunately there is no CCTV footage to see who might have done it.

“When I was working on it a lot, my focus was on keeping it safe,” he said.

“It was nearly finished and stuff started opening up again so I went back to doing catering and in doing that I stopped worrying so much about it getting stolen.”

Max had been working on the van on Friday (January 7) and left his wallet inside.

When he realised the van was gone, he decided not to cancel one of the cards and saw a transaction in a mini mart down the road, suggesting that the stolen van might be somewhere local.

Max had spent more than he had taken out with the loan but had expected to make the money back when he sold the van.

Now, he is faced with paying back the loan without the product he had worked so hard on.

The registration plate for the van is NU17 OGX.

MyLondon has contacted police for comment.
