‘I’ve already collected multiple knives and a gun from London’s streets just days into 2022’

An East London man has already removed multiple weapons including knives and a machete from the capital’s streets mere days into the new year.

Ryan Girling set up a knife amnesty group in a bid to rid London of dangerous weapons being used for crime.

The Woolwich man set up the group along with a Facebook page entitled ‘Protect Our Children’ after deciding he wanted to make an impact on society.

He works across London collecting as many weapons as he can off the streets.

Speaking to the Havering Daily about his work Ryan said: “I get calls from different people asking me to come and get knives or guns, I do regular collections and street patrols.

“It is important that we all play a part in stopping knife crime. It is all the community that needs to get involved and stop these nightmares.

Ryan began his knife amnesty after suffering from depression following the death of his father which he says prompted him to change his life.

He had already worked with young people for a number of years, working at different community centres, before setting up the knife amnesty group.

Ryan said he felt he “had to do something” to try to stop the knife crime horror we are seeing on the streets of London.

“As knife crime campaigners we go out on the streets and tackle these problems head on. Also I am giving talks in schools to try and help our youth stay on the right path and not get involved in a life of crime,” he added.

Ryan has already done his first collection of knives and weapons of the new year, sharing pictures of weapons he collected so far in January 2022.

Posting a video showing the large kitchen and machete style knives he had found, he said: “POC patrol, we’re on a mission to take these off the streets”
