No sooner has Danny Rose entered the Watford changing room than he appears to be on his way back out.
The left back only signed a two-year contract in the summer but after just seven months the 31-year-old has reportedly been told he will not play for the club again.
Frozen out by new Hornets boss Claudio Ranieri, Rose had made a promising start to life at Vicarage Road, making the left back berth his own for a time when he started five consecutive matches in September and October.

It appears that there is something of a breakdown in his relationship with the Italian.
The Athletic reported on Friday that the player had become ‘disillusioned’ with his new manager’s methods, as well as having concerns over some of his interactions with the former Leicester City boss.
Despite the breakdown, Sportsmail understands that the player is highly reluctant to leave and won’t be forced out, with one-and-a-half years still left on his deal.
It is typical of a career that has seen Rose rise to prominence, only for matters not related to those on the pitch to stunt his progress. For every World Cup semi-final appearance or PFA Team of the Year nomination there is a public declaration against his own club, or a row with a manager in front of documentary cameras.

It is not how a player that has done so much in and for the game should be remembered.
Rose made his name at Tottenham after joining from Leeds and quickly established himself as one of the best left backs in the country.
Introduced to Spurs’ first team in 2013 after returning from a loan spell with Sunderland, Rose excelled in the first-team and made the full-back berth his own. He wasn’t just the best at Spurs, he was the best in the league, named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2016 and 2017.
He was a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s swashbuckling side that drew admirers from all quarters, dazzling their way to the Champions League final in 2019.
His domestic form also brought him international recognition. Handed his debut in 2016, he became a key member of Gareth Southgate’s squad that finished fourth at the World Cup in Russia in 2018.
He has also been a leading light in the fight against racism, giving a candid interview in 2019 when he admitted he couldn’t wait ‘to see the back of football’ due to the abuse he had been subjected to throughout his career.
‘When countries get fined what I probably spend on a night out in London what do you expect?’ was his frank assessment after he and a number of England players were racially abused by supporters during England’s Euro 2020 qualifier in Montenegro in 2019.

The ability to speak his mind has always been a key trait of Rose’s personality. It is also what has landed him in hot water with clubs and managers.
An interview with The Sun in 2017 saw Rose slam Tottenham for allowing Kyle Walker to leave for Premier League rivals Manchester City.
In it, he also admitted his own desires to leave north London and return to the north of the country, something that caught the club and supporters alike by surprise.
‘Time is running out and I do want to win trophies,’ he said in August 2017.
‘I don’t want to play football for 15 years and not have one trophy or one medal.

‘I will say this too, I will play up north. I don’t know exactly when but I will get back up north and play some football somewhere.’
In 2020, the footballing community got to see Rose’s confrontational side first hand in Tottenham’s All or Nothing documentary.
An infamous row with Jose Mourinho, the man who replaced Mauricio Pochettino in the Spurs dugout, was caught on camera and played for the world to see.
‘Gaffer, I just want to know exactly what the problem is,’ was how Rose started the conversation in the Portuguese coach’s office.
When Mourinho asked what he means, the defender replied: ‘You know exactly what I mean, how I’m being treated. I was very excited when you came as manager, but if you don’t want me to play, I’d rather you just tell me now, and I’ll stay at home, and I’ll train at home.’

By the time the documentary aired, Rose had already been sent out on loan to Newcastle – getting his wish to return north, although possibly not with the team he had in mind.
Even here, he was once again quick to voice concerns, this time over Steve Bruce’s methods.
‘Now, I’m at Newcastle, you’re getting two or three days off a week if you win,’ he said on The Lockdown Tactics podcast. ‘I’m just like, “What’s going on here?” It’s a shock to the system.’
Now, once again, Rose finds himself at odds with a manager and his plans.
