London hospitals’ intensive-care COVID patient count drops

The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care in London hospitals has dropped in the past 24 hours, new statistics published on Thursday show, as the number of cases in the community continued spiking.

Thursday, London Health Sciences Centre announced there were 79 inpatients with COVID-19, up from 63 on Wednesday. But the number in intensive care sits at six, down from 10 one day prior.

Five or fewer COVID patients are in Children’s Hospital. The number of hospital staff who are infected with COVID is now at 350, more than double the number just one week ago.

Also on Thursday, the Middlesex-London Health Unit recorded 635 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the local pandemic total to 22,723. There were no new deaths – the most recent one was Dec. 30 – and the local death toll sits at 259.
