BBC The Apprentice: Tim Campbell’s old job on the London Underground and heart-breaking struggle telling wife he had cancer

The Apprentice is back in its first series since 2019 and Lord Sugar still wants the cream of the crop.

Despite the crushing blows for business dealt by Covid, you can be sure he won’t be fond of excuses.

This year with Claude Littner still recovering from a horror e-bike crash, Karen Brady will be joined by series one winner Tim Campbell in overseeing the contestants as they compete in some tricky tasks over the next couple of months.

In week one, you can sit back and relax as the contestants take on a marketing campaign for a cruise liner.

Fans of the show might remember Tim Campbell as the top businessman who was victorious all the way back in 2005, before being hired by Lord Sugar.

The new series is the first since 2019

After a few years at Amstrad, Lord Sugar’s tech business, he left to pursue his own ventures, and despite a failed perfume company he has managed to scoop an award with his work for a social enterprise.

Tim now runs a digital marketing agency on top of his role at a boutique property consultant business.

However, the businessman has come a long way since one of his first jobs on the London Underground – but no, he wasn’t a Tube driver.

Before he went on The Apprentice, he was a senior planner within the Strategy and Service Development directorate of London Underground.

It has also been a place for him to share his darker moments, including his cancer diagnosis in 2013.

He said to The Sun : “There is a fear of the word.

“My wife was distraught as her mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago, and my mum was devastated.

“I am a great believer in being positive. But I wouldn’t have been able to get through it without the strength and support of my family.”
