NHS workers in Lewisham have been surprised by festive gifts from top footballer Tammy Abraham.
The Roma striker, who was born in Camberwell, sent hampers with biscuits, tea, coffee and crisps for staff at the Ladywell Unit at Lewisham Hospital.
The gifts were welcomed by staff who have experienced another challenging year providing mental health services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ward manager Lucky Ukueku thanked the football player, saying that they had brought the ‘Christmas spirit’ to the staff.
He said: “Thank you so much to Tammy Abraham for the wonderful hamper and extra surprises he sent to the Ladywell Unit.
“They have really brought the Christmas spirit to Lewisham.”
Chief Executive of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust David Bradley, said: “I would like to thank Tammy Abraham for his gifts and donations to our teams at the Ladywell Unit in Lewisham.
“Thank you for your kindness and generosity – it is much appreciated.”
The 24-year-old England striker was born in Camberwell to Nigerian father Tamaraebi Bukumo.
He went to Pimlico Academy in Lupus Street, Pimlico while also training at the Chelsea FC academy, which he joined at seven years old.
Abraham was loaned by Chelsea to Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa, finally returning to play for the club in 2019.
