Dimitar Berbatov believes Tottenham could easily win a trophy this season in Antonio Conte’s first campaign in charge at the club.
Conte was appointed as Nuno Espirito Santo’s successor in November and ever since, there has been major improvement at Spurs.
The north Londoners have reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will face Chelsea over two legs, with the first match happening next week.
While winning the Premier League is completely out of the question and despite Tottenham having also been knocked out of the Europa Conference League, Berbatov still thinks his former club have a good chance of lifting a trophy this season for the first time in almost 14 years.
Berbatov also sent a warning to Tottenham fans about Jose Mourinho’s tenure at the club and how he was expected to win a trophy in north London.
When asked by Betfair if Spurs can win an honour this season, the ex-Tottenham forward said: “That is the question that has been asked ever since I left the club! My answer is the same: I hope so.
“In charge they now have Antonio Conte, who brings trophies wherever he goes, but that was the same for Mourinho not long ago.
“So, it shows that when you bring in a successful coach to Spurs, trophies aren’t always guaranteed.
“My hopes are high for Spurs and they are doing well in the league, they have a great chance to win a trophy again with the team this year, they have top players and Harry Kane will be desperate to lift a trophy with the club. Are they going to do it? We will see.”
The main aim for Spurs may well be securing a top four finish – and they can take one step closer to that on Saturday afternoon when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road.
