Arsenal predicted line up and injury news for Man City fixture

Manchester City’s visit to the Emirates Stadium will end a six-day layoff for Arsenal as they return to action for the first time since their comprehensive win over rock-bottom Norwich City.

Bukayo Saka scored twice as Mikel Arteta’s side reaffirmed their Champions League aspirations in the resounding Boxing Day triumph, before their clash with Wolves was postponed.

City will be looking to bolster their lead at the top of the Premier League table after they capitalised on slip-ups from Liverpool and Chelsea in midweek.

While Pep Guardiola will be in the dugout for City, his Spanish counterpart will be absent after testing positive for Covid-19.

Arsenal will be without five players, including former club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon striker has been omitted from the squad in recent weeks after breaching protocol at the club, which resulted in him being stripped of the armband.

He has been allowed to join up early with his country as they prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Summer-signing Takehiro Tomiyasu will also be absent after the Japanese international also tested positive for Covid-19.

It comes as a major blow for the north London side after the former Bologna defender made an impressive start to life in the Premier League.

He joins the growing list of absentees as the omicron variant of the virus continues to cause problems to preparations up and down the football pyramid.

Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers are both out with the illness. Sead Kolasinac remains absent with the ankle injury he suffered in November and is due to be sidelined until January.

It all means that Arsenal could well remain unchanged from the win at Carrow Road.

Predicted Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, Tierney, Holding, Gabriel, White, Xhaka, Partey, Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli, Lacazette.
